Visiting with Friends

We are headed out to PA this spring to visit some dear friends, the Knaaks. They moved away last year to pursue God’s call in ministry at World Harvest Mission centered in Philadelphia. We look forward to some vacation time, just Kara and me to visit with them, stay up too late, eat too many steak sandwiches (is that right, Jennifer? or is it cheese-steak? … gotta sound local!).

Soon!

Chaos at the Lake

We are here with three other families for a week of fun in the crazy hot sun… it is supposed to be 92 degrees the next two days (and sunny).  We have three "houses" filled to the brim with food, diapers, sleeping bags and people.  There are eight adults, and eleven kids, from 9 years old to 2 months old… it is CRAZY!!!!

We have been having a lot of fun and look forward to the remainder of this week, we still have five more days to go!

Our Growth Group

Thank you to all who have shared your support and the fact that you are praying for us, for our little Amy.  Kara is away this weekend and will be coming home tomorrow late.  She is having a hard time being away from home right now.

Thank you, Growth Group, for your considerable outpouring of care and affection for our family.  We again are indebted to you.  This seems so reminiscent of 18 months ago when we were praying for Kara.  We love you and care for each of you deeply.  You have been an encouragement, a blessing, a reminder, an example of Christ to us.  It was a neat time of prayer with you this evening.  We thank God for you.  -Nate

Baby Young is here!

Img_5252 Img_5247 Congratulations to Matt and Erin on the birth of Abigail Elizabeth Young at 8:45 this morning. Abby was 7 pounds 12 ounces and 21 inches long. Erin and Abby are well!

I visited her in the hospital and she is precious. It was so cute to see Erin with her little baby girl.

SingleTrack

Dsc02200A friend and I have taken to single track riding here in some of the local forest preserves… we are getting antsy to ride some of the longer, more intense trails that IL has to offer.  Right now, we are both just getting back into shape so we are sticking to the easier trails closest to hospitals.

I have been away from this for so long, my balance is not what it used to be, nor is my stamina, but I am better off than I thought I would be.  It makes me want a lighter, smaller frame bike, mine is a Trek hybrid from the early 90’s that weighs a ton and the frame is huge.  Oh well, one more thing I won’t be able to enjoy for a while.  We want to get Kara one as well, and a trailer for the kids… obviously not a part of this year’s riding season! – Nate

Hard Work

Dsc04206There is nothing like hard work to enliven me.  I had one of the best days in a long time, just working hard with friends.  All day I built shelves with Keith, he says I can take Mike Craig’s template and make money installing shelves for Napervillians.  I mowed my lawn, worked in the yard, met with a new high school student at Oswego East, and rebuilt my CV boots over at Peder and Amy’s.

We worked on my Accord about 4 hours today.  Me, Peder and Ed replaced the CV boots on the Accord this evening.  It took about 4 hours, takes the Honda guys about 3…  We saved a ton of money and I was able to spend some really quality time with good friends.  I learned a lot about cars and realized that if ministry doesn’t pan out, working as a mechanic might bring me some real joy! ;)

It was so much fun to pull stuff off the car, see how it works, play in a bunch of grease, bushings, boots and clamps… you should have seen how dirty we were [Pics]!  It took a long time to shower off and get clean from the sawdust, dirt, grass clippings, grease and grime. And PS, don’t dry off with a yellow towel (sorry Kara, I think it will come clean).

I was kind of giddy about how much fun it was to pull apart axles and drive shafts, repacking bushings and differentials!

Keith, Patric, and Caleb all showed up to "help" as well.  They were the encouragement section.  We had some good "man time".  Pics.

Good Friends

Img_3360Good friends are good to have.  Kara and several friends helped Amy G celebrate this past week.  Again, we are so thankful for the relationships God has brought to us here at NPC.  Pictures here.

The Loans

Our hearts are with the Loan family with the passing of Hollis.  They have been a part of the NPC church body for many years. I have had the joy of serving their girls Ashley and Amanda in ministry.  The Veermans and Loans are special friends.
