Our Furnace

The furnace… yeah, it has been cycling and not actually heating the home, I have to come downstairs in turn it off at the switch on the furnace itself, wait, then restart it.  We’ve never had it serviced or cleaned, so he cleaned it, wiped it down, check the gas pressure, exchange, pilot, and flame detector… seems to be better, $90 later… but a pro did it and he checked the stuff that I/we could not.

The thing would turn off in the middle of the night and it would be about 56 degrees (or lower in the dead of winter) throughout the home.  I got nervous, and tired, of having to go down there and reset it all the time.  I was worried about the kids, the safety of the furnace, and my own sanity of another winter having to do this about 3-4 times per week.  Worth the $90 I think.  I hope.

So far, so good.  We’ve have some cool nights and the furnace has been fine, I have not heard it cycle at all, so the safety and comfort I think has been worth the $90.

Snow

We are finally getting a winter with snow!  We got a blizzard last weekend, this weekend we are getting another couple of inches.  Not much, just enough to cover all the old brown snow, sort of a new start.  The plow woke me up this morning, however, it is 7:00 am and the family is still asleep!  Amazing!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! We got back last night from our 3 day visit with Nate’s family. We had good food and great fellowship. The girls enjoyed opening their first round of presents and spending lots of time with their cousins. Today we go to my parent’s house and stay overnight for a few days to really get some quality time with them. We are looking forward to it…more presents of course, but also watching the joy of Jesus’s birth through the eyes of a (almost) 4 year old.

We hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas. Img_7066 Img_7065

Speaking of Legacy…

Ray_naginSpeaking of legacy, it seems clear what New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin will be known for.  Idiocy.  Corruption.  Bigotry.  Neglect.  Irresponsibility.

Spending a lot of money celebrating Mardi Gras, then displacing women and children, having to reimburse the government $1.6 million that New Orleans does not have…  I am positive this is President Bush’s fault.  Positive!

Read story here.  I feel so sad for him.

Don’t Lose Your Pension

Link: 26 years on dead sibling’s pension – Peculiar Postings – MSNBC.com.  Yet another good reason we should all wear our seatbelts.  We may blow our cover for all our illegal means of getting more money!

Faith Hill/Tim McGraw

Timmcgraw Link: ABC News: Faith Hill, Tim McGraw Blast ‘Humiliating’ Katrina Cleanup.  I feel sad for rich, ignorant, little Tim McGraw, ripping people for the clean up efforts with his empty threats against people who are "not doing their job".  Read to the end and you’ll see he wants to go into politics some day.  I am sure that with the mentality that he’ll do it "when the music dies down"–meaning, "when I stink so much that people don’t come to my concerts anymore", or, "when I am bored being a selfish prat and raking in all my money"– he’ll be a really good senator.

Tell me again why anyone listens to celebrities, about ANYTHING?!

Students: Church fires ‘a joke’

Link: Students: Church fires ‘a joke’ – Crime & Punishment – MSNBC.com.  Thinking out loud… in light of all the tensions surrounding homosexuality and the ACLU demanding the rights and privileges of GLBS..

Do you think that if these were gay and lesbian hangouts that the news posts would consider these fires to hate-crimes, whether the arsonists had declared this a joke or not?  Or what if they were synagogues?  Mosques?  How do you think the news would consider activity like this?  Just curious.
