Old Video Tapes

Kara and I are both home today.  An unusual happening.

The kids were watching Mulan and singing and dancing in the kitchen and family room.  I grabbed the video camera and captured some priceless moments.  In the grabbing of the camera I saw some old, unmarked tapes.  Kara was all excited about organizing them so we laid them out and started to watch them so we knew what was on them and from what dates they had recordings.

We watched for a while.  One of the tapes included our honeymoon.  I was ashamed at my immaturity and my silly-ness.  I know it was cute at some level and at the time I know we were creating very special memories… however, Kara found it very humorous, the silly voices, immature acting, baby-talk to one another.  We both started laughing at me and my presentation of self on the camera.

No point, not theological truth, just something I noticed.  I am sure if I were to capture my actions today, I’d find that in 8 years I’d look back with similar "fondness"! ;)

Man Hands? No.

Indexhero20070109Look carefully at this image.  This man’s hands are disgusting.  They are NOT real.  Kara likes my hands.  I’d like an iPhone in my hands… maybe I can work something out?

Snow

We are finally getting a winter with snow!  We got a blizzard last weekend, this weekend we are getting another couple of inches.  Not much, just enough to cover all the old brown snow, sort of a new start.  The plow woke me up this morning, however, it is 7:00 am and the family is still asleep!  Amazing!

Happy Valentine’s to ME!

Img_7904 Nate surprised me this week with a unique Valentine’s gift…this morning a towncar picked up my friend Alysia and I (her husband obviously made the plans with Nate) and took us to the Park Hyatt in downtown Chicago for some spa time. She got a pregnancy massage and I got a deep tissue massage. After some fun time at the spa we walked around downtown (yes, in 5 degree weather) and enjoyed shopping and lunch. Then our car (a white stretch limo!) picked us up and brought us home. It was so fun to spend the day together. At one point we locked arms and skipped down Michigan Avenue…joking that we were Laverne and Shirley. What a blessing to spend the day with a good friend and an amazing husband who knew just what I needed!

Endocrinologist

Amy saw the endocrinologist this afternoon.  She pooped in the waiting room.  Diarrhea.  Awesome.  So, we sat and waited and did more paperwork, in the stink.  Dad is so smart (S-M-R-T), that he did not pack the diaper bag.

Amy was a perfect patient.  I think it was the promise of stickers which she promptly stuck to her head before leaving the office.  She went through the height, weight, head size, BP, and heart rate drill.  She’s fine.  Her thyroid is just in the wrong spot.

The practitioner said what we were already assuming: we need to keep an eye on things to make sure she has the right levels of T3 and T4 in her system so she develops fine.  The work is that she has a variant of congenital hypothyroidism.  Even though all her levels are normal they say she may have to take thyroid hormone replacements in the future, depending how the thyroid develops.  We’ll see.

She goes back in 4 months to have her blood drawn and to visit with the endocrinologist.  We have to do this every four months for a couple more years, then every six months to continue to monitor the levels.

Thanks for your prayer and for your emails today asking about the visit.

Ow, Daddy!

Ah kids…

I was brushing Amy’s hair after her bath tonight.  She was brushing her teeth.

I ran into some snags while brushing and she said, "Ow, Daddy, you broke my head!"

Jesus Eats our Hearts

Img_7761 I was making Natalie breakfast this morning and she all of a sudden asks me (with a perplexed look on her face), "Mom, if Jesus lives in our heart, does that mean that he eats my heart?" I assured her that Jesus did not eat her heart, but she was very concerned that Jesus had nothing to eat in there!

It is so funny that we talk to kids so young about Jesus living in their hearts because they think so literally. I specifically remember thinking that Jesus actually lived in my heart when I was younger as well. Ah…the mind of a four year old! I’m just thankful that she knows that Jesus is important to her and a part of her life!
