Interesting Morning

Before I explain my interesting morning…I should explain a few things:

1-I had my physical with my Dr. on Monday (needed to get for subbing). Had a TB test and he wanted my blood drawn.

2-Started phase 1 of South Beach Diet yesterday so I am VERY hungry and weak.

So…my morning…woke up with a headache, but couldn’t take anything because I needed to get my blood drawn this morning and had to do a 12 hour fast…so very hungry and feeling nauseous/dizzy. Hurried around the house to get the 3 of us out by 8:20. We go to Edwards (where my Dr. is) and I see them first to have them check my TB test. Girls were great…stayed put in their stroller smiling and talking to people while munching on their fishies.

Then we went to the blood lab at Edwards to have my blood drawn. I am feeling very weak and nauseous and want to lay on the floor with my hand clasped around my throbbing head. BUT…I put on a smile and wait patiently in the lab with my large stroller for my turn. My name is called 15 minutes later and we go in the back. There are two lab techs there (or RNs…whatever). It is obvious that the girl who will draw my blood is in college and in "training." I could tell she was nervous…but I had full confidence.

Well, the Natalie and Amy want to see me so they are watching everything.

She finally finds a vein on my right arm…which places her right next to the girls. After she sticks the needle in she realized that she got her glove stuck under the "tube" and quickly pulls the needle out. My arm is still in the tourniquet and blood starts shooting out of my arm and all over. Good times. Natalie looks at me in panic and I calmly (although I am also a little freaked out) reassure her that I am fine. So…my children almost saw me bleed out! I reassure the nurse as well that I am fine, but am feeling like I want to pass out from the blood…and headache I have. The RN finally gets my blood on the other arm. I am know bandaged on both arms and Natalie is very concerned about my 2 owies! I know it doesn’t sound as crazy as it was…but it was very freaky!

So…to cut the story short…I take my Excedrin Migraine immediately and much on some cashews…I make it home in time to lay on the couch and not throw up all over my car from my headache. 5 minutes after getting home the headache is gone!

The girls were fantastic through it all!

I know that is a very drawn out…not too exciting story…but HEY…it was very interesting in my stay-at-home mom day!

Natalie’s Big Fish!

Img_3430 Here is the picture of the 23 inch Northern that Natalie caught last week…with a little help from Papa. You can see from the look on her fact that she is excited! The girls and I (Kara) are back from our week at the lake with my parents. It was a nice week…other than Amy not sleeping very much. We spent lots of time in the water, on the jetski, taking boat rides, making sand castles, having picnics on the dock, fishing, making crafts, and going on nature hikes. The girls loved all that quality time with Grammy and Papa. I’ll post more pictures from our trip. I am sad that it will be another year before we return to the lake!

Hard Work

Dsc04206There is nothing like hard work to enliven me.  I had one of the best days in a long time, just working hard with friends.  All day I built shelves with Keith, he says I can take Mike Craig’s template and make money installing shelves for Napervillians.  I mowed my lawn, worked in the yard, met with a new high school student at Oswego East, and rebuilt my CV boots over at Peder and Amy’s.

We worked on my Accord about 4 hours today.  Me, Peder and Ed replaced the CV boots on the Accord this evening.  It took about 4 hours, takes the Honda guys about 3…  We saved a ton of money and I was able to spend some really quality time with good friends.  I learned a lot about cars and realized that if ministry doesn’t pan out, working as a mechanic might bring me some real joy! ;)

It was so much fun to pull stuff off the car, see how it works, play in a bunch of grease, bushings, boots and clamps… you should have seen how dirty we were [Pics]!  It took a long time to shower off and get clean from the sawdust, dirt, grass clippings, grease and grime. And PS, don’t dry off with a yellow towel (sorry Kara, I think it will come clean).

I was kind of giddy about how much fun it was to pull apart axles and drive shafts, repacking bushings and differentials!

Keith, Patric, and Caleb all showed up to "help" as well.  They were the encouragement section.  We had some good "man time".  Pics.

Dana called us last night to tell us that Walter proposed!  I have no clue what the story is or how it happened, so don’t ask! ;)  We’ll post pictures soon, I am sure and we’ll post the whole story.  Oh yeah, she did say ‘yes’.  Come back soon for more details!

[Updated] here is Dana’s blog for the whole story…

Natalie Caught a Northern!

Shedd_northernpikeIn an fantastic feat, Natalie (and Papa) landed a 23-inch (one at the larger end of the spectrum – meaning it is very large) Northern from the lake today (Lake Nebagamon, WI)!!!  [Kara and the girls went up for a whole week, leaving me here alone *sniff*.]

They were fishing off the dock when Papa caught an 18 inch bass, then Natalie caught the Northern about 10 minutes later.  Read about Pike, and here, and here.
